The New Bridge of the Orléans Island (nouveau Pont de l’Île d’Orléans) is a 2-pylon cable-stayed bridge more than 2 km long with a 430 m long main span.
The bridge will cross the Saint Laurent River with a 2-lane road with 3.5 m wide carriageways, 2.5 m wide hard shoulders and 3.0 m wide multi-functional paths for a combined cycling and pedestrian use at the outsides. The main span accommodates a shipping channel of approx. 183 by 30 m.
The project is carried out by the MTMD of Québec and was assigned for design and build to Groupe Héritage Île-d’Orléans S.E.N.C., a consortium composed by the contractors EBC and Dragados, and the designers TYLin and AtkinsRéalis.
The German engineering firm Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner (Stuttgart) has been engaged by the consortium for performing a design independent check, and is developing a full independent SOFiSTiK Global Model of the bridge, including among others all final stage analysis, the consideration of the construction sequence, and the seismic non-linear Time-History Analysis with consideration of soil and material non-linearity, liquefaction of soils, scour, etc.
