The Causeway Cable Stayed Bridges are two iconic, single-sided supported cable-stayed bridges that span the Swan River in Perth, Australia. Each bridge deck is 6.0 meters wide, making them among the widest single-sided cable-supported decks in the world.
The first bridge, the Point Fraser Bridge, connects Point Fraser to Heirisson Island with a total length of 215 meters, including a 100-meters main span and a 48-meters side span. The bridge’s 52-meter-high pylon is designed to represent an Indigenous boomerang, reflecting the local cultural heritage.
The second bridge, the McCallum Park Bridge, extends from Heirisson Island to McCallum Park. This three-span bridge, supported by two pylons, has an overall length of 275 meters, featuring a 155-meter main span and two 60-meter side spans. The 46-meter-high tapering round pylons symbolize Indigenous digging sticks.
The bridges were analyzed and designed using SOFiSTiK software, incorporating a range of advanced structural analyses. These included TH3 construction stage analysis, cable force finding, camber analysis, cable rupture analysis, TH3 transient load analysis, pedestrian footfall analysis, and wind dynamic analysis. During construction, geometry control was also conducted using SOFiSTiK to ensure precise alignment and performance.
