SOFiSTiK North America - Efficient bridge design for outstanding results

SOFiSTiK North America, based out of Tennessee, is a subsidiary of SOFiSTiK AG. The technical center serves the
market-specific software and service needs of the North American construction industry, with a focus on bridge design.

SOFiSTiK FEA software offers advanced parametric workflows to model, analyse and design any type of bridge.
Its world class technology has given SOFiSTiK a name in the complex and long span bridge market for concrete and steel bridges.
Workflows are available to integrate bridge models with widely used BIM software.

SOFiSTiK North America specializes in advanced parametric workflows for bridges using Rhino and Grasshopper.
Get in touch if you are interested in implementing these workflows in your organization.

We are continuously extending our toolkit for Grasshopper.

SOFiSTiK Grasshopper components

Users can now easily create parametric bridge models for analysis in SOFiSTiK in a few easy steps:

        1. Define the superstructure cross section, road axis and important planes along the                                axis called “placements”.

        2. Create the bridge geometric model based on the road axis.

        3. Create the bridge analysis model using structural points, lines and areas.

        4. Generate a SOFiSTiK model from the analysis model.

Rhino/GH Examples

Post-Tensioned Concrete Bridge

This is the ideal example to get started. The model includes geometric
and analysis models for both the bridge superstructure and substructure. Tendons are defined based on cross section points located at the web centerlines.

Axis variables are used to define the variation of the points along the axis.
A construction staged analysis including creep and shrinkage is done in SOFiSTiK to obtain forces and stresses for every stage.

Plate Girder Bridge

Typical example according to North American standards with imperial
units. The girders are defined using beam elements for the flanges, and
shell elements for the webs.

Cross frames and stiffeners are defined using beam elements. The deck
is defined using shell elements. The new SOFiSTiK module DECREATOR
is used to obtain beam-like results along the girder axes for the non-
composite and composite stages.

Balanced Cantilever Bridge

This comprehensive example includes the definition of large amounts of
data through an Excel spreadsheet. A dedicated Grasshopper component streams data from a “Master” Excel table into the Grasshopper script to
define placement names and stations, axis variables, tendons and loads. Complex staging in SOFiSTiK is done using text input.

A typical erection cycle of traveler loads, wet concrete, stiffness activation,
post-tensioning and creep is defined and looped until the structure is completed. A precamber analysis assures that a perfect geometry is
reached at traffic opening.
