Introduction

SOFiSTiK Analytical Model Generator allows you to optimize your Autodesk® Revit® analytical model to create a working 3D Finite Element model for structural analysis. An otherwise tedious, time-consuming task becomes a matter of minutes with the help of our Wizard which guides you through the process.

The optimization of the Finite Element model is started directly within Revit. According to the analysis task at hand, pre-defined configurations enables you to choose an optimization that best fits your needs. More experienced users can create their configuration and adjust the parameters for the optimization setting individually.

SOFiSTiK Analytical Model Generator is a stand-alone product and can be used to improve your analyticial model for any structural analysis software including vendors other than SOFiSTiK.

Workflow - Step by Step

Note

Starting point of SOFiSTiK Analytical Model Generator is a view showing the Physical Model in Revit (elements listed in the Model Category). It is not necessary to adjust view settings to include the elements of the Analytical Model Category.

  1. Find or create a view that shows the relevant part of your project. For more information, see Best Practices.

  2. Select Analyze ‣ SOFiSTiK AMG ‣ Show in the Ribbon. This opens the SOFiSTiK Analytical Model Generator Side Panel.

  3. Choose a Configuration template and click Start to activate the Wizard. Work your way through the steps and receive an optimized analytical model at the end.

  4. Thoroughly check your analytical model, both within Autodesk® Revit® and the structural analysis software of your choice. If necessary, repeat the process from C.

  5. Add boundary conditions and loads to your analytical model.

Best Practices

  • Focus on the structure in question by removing surroundings and imported or linked projects not relevant to the analysis task at hand.

  • To cut down computation time for complex projects, consider investigating different structure parts separately in individual views, e.g., residential floors, commercial floors and car parking in a multi-purpose building. Once satisfied with the optimization, bring everything together in a single view.

Current Limitations

SOFiSTiK Analytical Model Generator is under development and limitations apply.

Important

Elements that are currently not supported will not be touched by the tool. If the Revit automatism does not work, they may need to be manually adjusted. Such elements are easily identified at the end of the process and will not be deleted from the project.

  • Arc-shaped beams and walls.

  • Existing boundary conditions and hosted loads are being processed. Free loads are not considered and may be out of place after optimization.
