Hello,

I am trying to simulate FPS bearings with teddy for my diploma thesis so I can then research the behaviour of a bridge of three spans with dynamic analysis. I tried to replace the bearings with 2 springs in the same direction. The first spring describes the stiffness Kp of the bearing and the second one the yield force. Although the diagrams of the behaviour of the two differrent springs are correct in the report, when I apply a horizontal force for a first estimation I get an unexpected hysteritic curve.
Is there any other way to simulate these bearings? If yes, can you send me an example? If no, which factor can be responsible for the above unexpected curve?

Yours sincerely,
A desperate student

Hello!

I think you can apply a Work-diagram for each spring, there you can define the yield force. See the example for the Pushover method (Sofistik@Youtube) or the Verification manual, there are also some examples for springs. Be just carefull to apply a small stiffnes for post-yield part of the Work-diagram, to avoid nummerical problems.

Don't be desperate :)
Best wishes
